Gay podcast host and LGBTQ+ activist Bobby Leiber has been given the task of writing the script for a romance film aimed at a heterosexual audience. He is also a member of the board of directors of a queer history museum and an avowed opponent of committed relationships. The New Yorker falls in love with the handsome Aaron, who comes from a small town, works as a lawyer and is pretty much the exact opposite of him. He lives out his gayness to a lesser extent than Bobby. Although they both consider themselves unfit for a relationship, they decide to give it a try.
