All students of a faculty form a faculty student body (Fachschaft) according to the statutes of the student body.

The Faculty Student Council (Fachschaftsrat FSR) is the representative body of a Fachschaft. Each semester, at least one general assembly (VV) of the faculty student body takes place. Depending on the practice of the respective Fachschaft, the FSR is elected either on the VV in the summer semester or in the winter semester. According to the statute, the term of office of the FSR lasts one year. In the semester following, it is usually possible to make appointments to the FSR in order to offer new interested students the opportunity to actively participate.

While the AStA is responsible for all students, the individual FSRs are the contact points for subject-related matters. For questions about studying, problems with lecturers or questions about examination regulations, the FSRs can help or at least point to the right contact point.

The student councils also organize the freshman program, uniparties, lecture surveys or information events. Most student councils also provide past journals and other lecture materials from recent years that are quite useful in learning and exam preparation.
