The General Students' Committee (Allgemeiner Studierenden Ausschuss - AStA) represents the interests of all students of the TU Kaiserslautern towards the university and society.
It is the executive organ of the student body and implements the resolutions of the student parliament. The AStA is responsible for the day-to-day running of the student body and is the organ of the student body responsible for representation. The AStA is elected by the student parliament and consists of the statutory departments chairmanship, finances and student councils as well as a number of other special departments, which can be optionally set up by the student parliament.
The members of the AStA must be students of the TU Kaiserslautern.
The LandesAstenKonferenz (LAK) is the union of all AStAs of universities and universities of applied sciences in Rhineland-Palatinate and serves as a representative for the student body towards the state government. Together, opinions on current (university) political issues (eg study accounts, Higher Education Act...) are developed, actions are planned and contacts to other federal states and the federal level are maintained. The meetings of the LAK usually take place every one to two months in one of the AStAs.
